Epipen is an automatic injector (injection solution in a filled syringe) designed for emergency assistance in cases of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).

Remember that the Epipen is intended for emergency use only. After its use, it is essential to seek medical attention or go to the hospital for further treatment.

The EpiPen trainer works on the same mechanism as the real EpiPen®, but does not have a needle or medication. It is intended for training and practice only.

• EpiPen – this is a training simulator designed to safely and realistically practice the use of the EpiPen or EpiPen Jr auto-injector. It is ideal for first aid instructors, training sessions, and individual practice to learn how to provide assistance in the event of an anaphylactic reaction.

Here’s how to use the Epipen correctly

Preparation

• Take the EpiPen out of its case.
• Take the Epipen in your dominant hand so that your thumb is closest to the blue safety cap.
• Form a fist around the device so that the orange tip is pointing down.

Steps of use

• Remove the blue protective cap by pulling it straight up.
• Hold the Epipen about 10 cm away from the outer thigh. The orange tip should be aimed at the thigh.
• Firmly insert the Epipen into the outer thigh at a 90° angle. You should hear a click.
• Hold the injector in the same place for 3 seconds.
• Remove the Epipen (the orange needle cover will extend, covering the needle).
• Gently massage the injection site for about 10 seconds.
• Immediately call emergency number 112 and inform that you have experienced anaphylaxis.

Important notes

• Epipen can be used through clothing.
• Never hold or press the orange tip, as the needle extends from it.
• If symptoms do not improve within 5-15 minutes, a second injection may be required.
• Always carry more than one Epipen with you.
• Epipen should only be administered to the outer thigh, not the buttocks.
